Summary: | The spatial relationships between architectural form and computation are changing. They have been changing ever since the computer left a dedicated room in an office building leading to evolution, not only in the design of the office as a building type but also new forms of interaction with computing technology that are changing our ways of working and living within the built environment. In this chapter we study how this relationship has changed both the nature of ‘work’ and its locations. Building on this insight and understanding from the field of workplace studies we suggest a particular approach, analytic ethnography, to inform the design of environments for the new ways that computation, architecture and interaction intersect. |
