Summary:The chapter is dedicated to experimental investigation of mechanism of phase and structure formation of metal and nonmetal nitrides, relationship of nitride composition and structure with infiltration combustion modes, synthetic and technological approaches of production, and application of nitride ceramics. Peculiarities of nitride structure formation and morphology at combustion of elements in gaseous nitrogen of high pressure (100–1000 MPa) are considered. The stages of the synthesis processes from formation of nitrogen solid solutions in metals to that of stoichiometric nitrides as well as a possibility of nonequilibrium structure formation and nanosized nitride production are discussed. The examples of nitride ceramics application in various industries including metallurgy, chemistry, aircraft engineering, and electronics are shown.
