Summary:Percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT) of parathyroid tumor has proven to be a useful method. Recently, two patients was treated: one was successful after four ethanol injection were performed, decrease levels of PTH and changes seen ultrasonographic studies were accompanied by reduction of parathyroid gland. The other was unsuccessful, persistent hypercalcemia and high level of PTH, although six ethanol injection reduced parathyroid volume. In this case, fibrosis of the tumor could make further ethanol injections more difficult. In two cases, no major complication was not occurred. In conclusion, PEIT is a useful method for secondary hyperparathyroidism. In order to success of ethanol injection therapy, it is necessary to examine the dose of ethanol, interval of the injection.
