Summary:A point-by-point comparison suggests that the advantages of a DVD (Digital Video Disc) system are at best ambiguous, and the introduction of a new CD-based video technology will not be a smooth process. In fact, manufacturers can find anecdotal and statistical data that indicate how well-entrenched the status quo is, and how little chance this new product category might have. Points on price, market acceptance of combination systems, poor sales record of CD-i and videocassette player, and quality are considered.
