Summary:All nurse managers were subject to the same environmental constraints on achieving these goals (e.g., regulations set forth by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), The Joint Commission, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI), and the American Hospital Association. The presence or absence of clinical leader or charge nurse roles made a big difference in nurse managers' responsibilities and which goal-related functions or object-related processes (e.g., scheduling, patient rounds, quality improvement initiatives, or staff evaluations) could be delegated safely.
