Summary:The global influence of environmental problems has led to an increasing role of international environmental non-governmental organizations, which has become active actors on the global arena. Climate change as the serious challenge led to consolidation of efforts of states and non-governmental organizations. 'Green diplomacy' or 'environmental diplomacy' has become a part of international relations. At the first stage of our study the characteristics of the leading international environmental organizations were considered. According to various recourses, there are currently between 200 and 500 international environmental organizations. The second stage of the study was devoted to the study of activities led by Russian environmental organizations. Their aims are directly related to the formation of a developed civil society in Russia, which includes independent environmental public associations. The third stage of our study included the analysis of cooperation between environmental organizations of Russia and international environmental non-governmental organizations.
