Summary: | The story of Peter's incarceration in Jerusalem (Acts 12:1-19) is told with an unusual "you are there" flavor. Herod begins a persecution of some of the early Christians, recognizes that what he is doing is politically popular, and doubles down. Peter is arrested and held under heavy guard with intent to bring him out for public condemnation, and we presume for execution. The night before the public spectacle, Peter is sleeping, chained and under guard, when an angel appears! The angel gives instructions and leads Peter past the guards. The iron city gate opens for them. Peter thinks it is all a vision, until the angel leaves him alone on an isolated lane. |
