Summary:A novel, simple, one pot synthesis method for 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) entrapped poly 3-aminopropyl siloxane (APS), an organo-inorganic hybrid, was developed and its drug release was studied. In this method an organo-inorganic hybrid was formed by mixing the appropriate quantities of triethoxy aminopropyl siloxane (APTES), tetraethyl ortho silicate (TEOS), 5-FU and water which were dried to a solid. The material was characterized by XRD, SEM & FT-IR. The drug release was carried by using UV-VIS spectroscopy. It is amorphous and carries tiny aggregated spheres separated by voids. A significant interaction between 5-FU and APS is evidenced through FT-IR spectra. The study of drug release showed around 75% release for 18h; hence the material may ideal for slow release. So, this material could be substituted for several reported mesoporous materials to take-in and release slowly the potentially toxic drugs especially during the colorectal cancer like diseases.
