Summary: | The use of Pithecellobium dulce in feeding lactating goats and their effect on the fatty acid profile of milk fat were evaluated. Ten creole goats third and fourth birth, randomly distributed in two treatments during the last third of gestation and throughout lactation were used. The first group (T1) was fed 650g of concentrate, 50g of mineral premix and 4kg of corn silage per goat per day; the second group (T2) was fed with 2h of grazing on a protein bank of P. dulce, as well as 1kg of fresh P. dulce leaves, 50g of mineral premix and 4kg of silage by goat, daily. Besides commercial concentrate supplementation or protein bank, the experimental herd was maintained grazing on native mixed grass pastures during the morning and early afternoon (9:00-14:00). The fatty acid profile of the milk fat was determined by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector. The values of fatty acids in both treatments were compared using repeated measurements over time. Significant differences for most of the fatty acids, except for C18:0, C18:1n9t and C18:2 were found due to the time-treatment interaction; however, the fatty acid profile of the milk is similar in goats fed with P. dulce and concentrate. |
