Summary: | The basic structural and functional element of a belt conveyor is the conveyor belt, which is supported by carrying rollers. Research in this area is important for increasing the service life of mining belt conveyor components. The rollers are subject to various forms of wear. Tribological interactions between the roller, the conveyor belt, and the particles of the transported material or impurities from the environment that enter the tribological system cause various forms of mechanical wear. Abrasion is the predominant type of wear for a given friction node. Abrasive wear causes tearing and cutting of the surface of the rollers. Moreover, they are also subject to chemical wear, namely corrosion of the damaged steel shells of the rollers. The combination of the individual types of wear led to damage that affected the thickness of the roller shell and its basic mechanical property, namely Vickers hardness. In this paper, non-destructive testing methods were applied, while the hardness was determined by the UCI (Ultrasonic Contact Impedance) method and the shell thickness was determined by the ultrasonic method. |
