Summary: | Contemporary development of modern technologies enabling the study of living brain brings much valuable information concerning the possibilities of regeneration, adaptation to changed life conditions or coping with nervous tissue injury after accident or disease. The possibilities of lifelong neurogenesis and in connection with it the importance of stem cells represent one of the main topics of professional debate in this field. The deeper understanding of mechanisms of nervous system brings new possibilities of its affecting in health and illness and inspires also the instruments of applied psychology and possibilities of cognitive rehabilitation which directs from empirically derived strategies to theoretically well-founded rehabilitation interventions The authors sum up the basic information about progress in brain neuroplasticity research in the relation to helping by psychological means.
