Summary:Ask members of the U.S. military why they decided to join the front lines and many will speak of a calling based on commitment and dedication to their country. That same loyalty to community is also what's driving many of them to step off the battlefield and into the classroom for a second tour of duty as school teachers. While making the transition from military leader to classroom leader isn't a stretch for some soliders, affording the time and money to get certified is. Through the government-sponsored Troops-to-Teachers program, military personnel are able to train to become teachers while they complete service commitments. It was created in response to the staggering shortage of teachers, as well as the growing trend in retiring military personnel seeking second careers in education. The schools benefit because they don't have to wait for participants to get certified the traditional way.
