Summary: | The question arises as to how to go about detecting plagiarism when a paper is deemed to be suspicious. Educators would welcome a simple solution, in which all written materials from students would be submitted to some software system, and then speedily returned with the plagiarized portions all neatly marked. However desirable this kind of a litmus test for plagiarism may be, it is not available now and probably never will be. As was discussed in Chap. 2, there are many variations of plagiarism above and beyond simple copying and pasting. Even for simple cases, software is notoriously poor at detecting all but the clearest copies. |
