Summary: | El Duraznal is a Tsotsil community that belongs to the municipality of San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas. This community is made up of people who were expelled from their places of origin (Chamula & Zinacantim) for religious reasons. The first settlers arrived in El Duraznal in 1988, attracted by the availability of land & of residual waters for agricultural use. In this context, the changes in perception & practices or behaviors that arose with religious conversion, as well as the influence that religion has had on the construction of meanings concerning the health-illness issue were analyzed from the dimension of gender.
