Summary: | A biochemical and genetic analysis of the caprine alpha sub(s) casein complex was carried out using individual milk samples from goats of the Alpine and Saanen breeds, and from cross bred animals, derived mainly from these breeds, kept in three large flocks (Brouessy, Bourges and Moissac). A polymorphism complicated by the incidence of the quantitative variations is detectable in both pH conditions. Locus alpha sub(s1)-Cn appears to control variant alpha sub(s1)-CnA, at least two forms of variant alpha sub(s1)-CnB which differ in their synthesis rate, and variant alpha sub(s1)-CnC. A polymorphism of alpha sub(s2) casein is detectable in both pH conditions. It is controlled by two alleles of the alpha sub(s2)-Cn locus, alpha sub(s2)-Cn super(A) and alpha sub(s2)-Cn super(B). Limited data suggest that loci alpha sub(s1)-Cn and alpha sub(s2)-Cn are linked in the goat, as in cattle. |
