PROTECTED AREAS IN CALIMANI MOUNTAINS

The environment was and is subject to changes caused by both natural factors but mainly by anthropogenic ones, affecting each component, sometimes in an irreversible manner. Therefore it has become necessary to take measures to protect the ecosystem by creating some protection or conservation units of the environment. Therefore this article represents a small presentation guide of the main protected areas situated on the territory of Calimani Mountains. The first part of the paper sheds some light on the history and birth of the phrase 'protected area' and who was it coined by, but also the first activities in this domain in Romania. Then it continues with a presentation of the natural and national parks, the forests reserves, the flora and fauna reserves, the geological and geomorphological ones, as well as an enumeration of all the above mentioned reservations in Calimani Mountains, including those which are in their area of influence.
