Summary:This paper presents a tool for optimal synthesis of FIR filters tailored for the equalization of a room acoustic transfer function. The synthesis is optimized for minimizing the hardware resources required to implement the resulting filters, in particular by reducing the length of these filters. The optimization procedure employs a genetic algorithm developed for this application. A LabVIEW implementation of the filter synthesis tool is presented in some detail along with a real-life example.
