EFFECT OF REARING CONTAINER'S COLOUR ON GROWTH AND SURVIVAL OF POST-LARVAE OF MACROBRACHIUM ROSENBERGII (DE MAN, 1879)

In this paper, post-larvae of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (Weight: 30.00 ± 1.27 mg; Length: 16.55 ± 0.25 mm) were reared for 45 days in tubs (30 L capacity each) having various internal colours such as white, red, green, blue and dark-violet. Stocking density, feed, feeding schedule, water quality man...

Summary:In this paper, post-larvae of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (Weight: 30.00 ± 1.27 mg; Length: 16.55 ± 0.25 mm) were reared for 45 days in tubs (30 L capacity each) having various internal colours such as white, red, green, blue and dark-violet. Stocking density, feed, feeding schedule, water quality management and other parameters were kept same in all the treatments. Significantly more length gain (80.03%) and weight gain (609.42%) were observed in dark-violet colour tub as compared to blue (63.24% and 425.18%), red (47.56% and 320.79%), green (46.08% and 279.72%) and white (40.30% and 229.40%) colours. Similarly, significantly more survival (90.0%) was recorded in dark-violet and minimum survival (72.5%) was recorded in white colour tubs. However, there was no significant difference in survival in dark-violet and blue coloured tubs. The result showed that the internal colour of rearing container affects the growth and survival of post-larvae of M. rosenbergii.
