Summary: | Current measurement for automotive electrical actuator applications (with motors or valves) is necessary for appropriate control in many cases and a safety requirement in all cases: the control algorithm may be dependent on the data but safety relevant functions will use it to determine possible over-current, over-temperature or failure conditions. This paper proposes an alternative method of monitoring the current, without using sensors or current shunts. Instead, measurements are made on the motor in the development stages and low/high frequency variations in the supply line are monitored, through low/high-pass filters, by available AD channels in the system. This results in cost reduction for the final product, by reducing hardware complexity. [PUBLICATION ABSTRACT] |
