Summary:A modified performance criterion that can be used for evaluating the performance of space-time codes on fast fading channels is presented. Using parameter comparison and simulation results, the proposed criterion is shown to be more accurate than the conventional product distance criterion in predicting the performance of well-known spacetime codes. The criterion is also applied to multiple-trellis-coded modulation concatenated with space-time block code, which is shown to perform better than other known spacetime trellis codes on fast fading channels.
