Summary:This article makes a two-dimensional study of occupational segregation in Spain and in the Basque Country, considering sex and age as causes of inequality. We pretend to analyze gender differences based on the age cohort and to study the evolution of such differences over the time. Using microdata from the Labour Force Survey in years 2002 and 2014, we represent local segregation curves. We additionally calculate the local segregation index called "dissimilarity index variation" (Dg) and the overall segregation index proposed by Silber (Ip). The study reveals that women and men have a different behaviour in the period considered. The intensity of segregation increases dependant on age for women, so the more age the more specialization or confinement in certain occupations-activities. However, oldest men are more equally distributed in the occupational ladder. The study also shows that the observed temporary decrease in gender differences for different cohorts is due to changes in the occupational structure. Consequently, the concentration levels of different cohorts of workers in certain occupations are accentuated. As a result labour niches by sex and age are created.
