Summary:Fascination with the occult in US society is examined. It is argued that after the horrors of Vietnam & the political disillusionment of Watergate, Americans looked for reassurance that the US was still a civilized nation. Finding no help in rational organizations, they have turned in large numbers to occultism, just as Germans did after WWII.
