Summary:This article addresses financial and legal problems, health concerns, and socio-emotional issues that are problematic for custodial grandparents raising their grandchildren. It discusses a faith-based support group that was formed for African American grandmothers. The group was facilitated by a Ph.D. staff social worker/associate minister to provide the grandparents with a supportive environment to discuss their day-to-day concerns about the strain of parenting their grandchildren. Additionally, five interventions are identified from the support group that could provide a practice model for other faith-based practitioners and congregations who wish to support grandparents raising grandchildren.
