Summary:The former layout for American Electric Power's (AEP) 12-kV distribution station used a non-LTC transformer with regulators, which created some challenges on the system. The layout required a larger station site, provided for accessibility for regulator switching, and necessitated the use of a crane and an outside contractor for removing large regulators (5 tons) from their foundations. Recently built 12-kV distribution stations on the AEP System use a new regulator bay layout that solves these problems and reduces station construction costs.
