Summary:At the dawn of electronic security, there was the monitored burglar alarm. A simple system, when a sensor or detector alerted, that fact would go through a telephone line to a central monitoring station. The monitoring operator would dispatch a security officer or call the police. That was then. Today, ever-evolving software, especially from a select group of providers, goes beyond that elementary alarm to offer diverse services as well as to enable security leaders to get closer to enterprise business goals. Keeping up with central station software benefits and advances makes sense for both the enterprises with their own proprietary central station and the greater number of security operations which use an outside service.
