Summary:An abstract of a study by Kincheloe et al evaluating the effects of early versus normal weaning in conjunction with two winter feeding strategies on cow body weight (BW), body condition score (BCS), reproductive performance, and calf performance is presented. Cows were randomly assigned to one of two weaning treatments (early wean in August or normal wean in November). Results showed that early vs. normal weaning maintained cow BW and BCS at greater levels throughout the study.
