Currently Professor of English at Yale University, he also serves as editor of The Yale Review. The American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters describes McClatchy as a master. It may be that no more eloquent poet will emerge in his American generation. The poet also has an increasingly prominent role in the opera house.
