Summary:An experience with treatment of 23 patients with sliding hiatal hernias is described, in 3 of them (13%) the hernias were great and fixed. Operations on them were performed through a transthoracic access. After bringing the stomach down into the abdominal cavity the fundoplication and crurorhaphy with the esophageal opening strengthened with a polypropylene net were performed. Long-tern results were good.
