Summary:In terms of parameters for left ventricular diastolic filling, age-related hemodynamic characteristics were examined in elderly and senile subjects (aged 50-79 years). The echocardiographic parameters for left ventricular contractile and pumping functions and diastolic filling were found to undergo age-specific changes. The 7th decade of human life is largely different from the prior and subsequent decades in some echocardiographic parameters, in particular lower rapid filling fraction and higher slow filling fraction which may suggest the subjects of this age show initial manifestations of impaired myocardial relaxation.
