Summary:In this study data of labour, delivery and neonatal outcome were compared in term pregnancies in 100 patients with premature rupture of the membranes (PROM) amniotomy. According to the data in cases of PROM there are more unfavourable cervix findings at the beginning of labour (54%), more pathologic cardiotocograms in the first stage (14% vs. 12%), more prolonged first stages (21.5 vs 14.5 hours) more caesarean section (9% vs 7%) and more newborns were born with a 5 minute Apgar score below 8 than in the control group. Intrauterine infection was detected in 1% of all cases. The authors conclude, that careful monitoring of the fetal state and with no signs of intrauterine infection expectant management of delivery is advisable to improve to improve perinatal mortality and morbidity.
