Summary:The experimental study was performed to investigate the effects of the peak cylinder pressure and the cooling galleries on the piston temperature of a 2L diesel engine. Pistons with conventional and raised-wave galleries are employed. Temperature sensitive steel set-screws were installed in the piston crown in order to measure the maximum temperature. The engine bench test was performed under the condition of a maximum power and full load. As a result, the piston with raised-wave gallery has better cooling performance in comparison with the piston with conventional gallery.
