Summary: | This article reports on an analysis of N80 BTC downhole tubing corrosion based on macro- and micro-corrosion morphology analysis and material testing. It concludes that the tubing failure was caused by erosion-corrosion. Using flow calculation software, the authors further determined that the erosion-corrosion was caused by the highly disturbed liquid and high shear stress at locations subject to abrupt geometric change. After 4 years of service, corrosion was found on the internal surfaces of two adjacent sections of N80 BTC tubing within a coupling. The corrosion of the field end was more severe than that of the mill end. The well is for oil extraction with an electric submersible pump. |
