Summary:Even though mathematics is generally considered as a not popular subject, it is commonly integrated into the study plans of all technical and scientific areas. One of the mathematical courses that our department offers to students of informatics is linear algebra. It is a difficult course in general, but its knowledge is necessary for the following subjects, so the achievement of the learning outcomes is very important. That is the reason why we still look for new approaches. Understanding studentś thinking is the first thing that we need to know in order to offer the subject in a more familiar way. The results of our research, focused on deeper understanding of how the students solve linear algebra problems and which features can make the tasks harder or easier, will be described.
