Summary:Alan Bush (1900-1995) was a British composer whose substantial compositional output included symphonies, operas and many chamber works. He was also a Marxist and lifelong member of the British Communist Party. In 1960 Bush completed his Byron Symphony, the third of his four symphonies. Despite receiving high praise from composers and critics such as Ronald Stevenson, Artes Orga and Malcolm MacDonald, the work remains little known.
