A role for gamma delta T lymphocytes in the development of advanced clinical forms of tuberculosis in HIV-infected patients

HIV patients frequently develop advanced pulmonary and extrapulmonary forms of tuberculosis. Although the main reasons seems to be the alteration of the CD4 super(+) alpha beta T cells, some groups have reported changes in the basal counts of gamma delta T cells. However, the potential implication o...

Summary:HIV patients frequently develop advanced pulmonary and extrapulmonary forms of tuberculosis. Although the main reasons seems to be the alteration of the CD4 super(+) alpha beta T cells, some groups have reported changes in the basal counts of gamma delta T cells. However, the potential implication of an impaired delta sub(2) response to M. tuberculosis in HIV patients is unknown, and hence the objective of our study was to investigate this response.
