A study of the phase boundaries and lattice parameters of the CdS-CdTe pseudobinary system

The composition of CdS sub(x)Te sub(1-x) samples was found by particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that bulk CdS sub(x)Te sub(1-x) has the zincblende structure for x identical with 0.2 and the wurtzite structure for x identical with 0.25. The cha...

Summary:The composition of CdS sub(x)Te sub(1-x) samples was found by particle-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction analysis showed that bulk CdS sub(x)Te sub(1-x) has the zincblende structure for x identical with 0.2 and the wurtzite structure for x identical with 0.25. The change in lattice parameter with composition fits the Vegard linear assumption to within the errors obtained for both phases. Both the Vegard coefficients and the phase change between x identical with 0.2 and x identical with 0.25 are in agreement with the work of K. Ohata, J. Sarale and T. Tanaka.
