Summary: | Only three diverging diamond interchanges (DDI) existed in France prior to 2009. The DDI is a new type of diamond interchange for many professionals, and it has aroused much interest as a study subject. One major type of current study on DDIs primarily studies signal control strategies on the basis of field implementation and evaluation, and another major type involves comparison with conventional diamond interchanges, single-point urban interchanges, and other interchanges through microscopic simulation. Up to now, research on their modeling, analysis, and signal control strategies has been in the preliminary stages. This study introduces an advanced traffic signal operation and comprehensively studies the relationship between the cycle length and operation efficiency on a DDI under five traffic demand scenarios. The simulation results evaluated by VISSIM indicate that this study provides several evocative recommendations to traffic professors and engineers for selecting a good cycle length of DDIs. |
