Summary: | The information that describes the actual coverage of the earth represents a strong asset in what planning and modelling our world are concerned. The quality of such an information leads to a safe simulation or prediction of results. These information are obtained from different sources such as satellite and aerial images, ground information, topographic maps and are stored and managed with the aid of a Geographic Information System (GIS). In Romania two types of land cover databases were created: LCCS (Land Cover Classification System) for the years of 2000 and 2003, and Corine (Coordination of information on the environment) Land Cover 2000 and 2006. Using these two classification systems comparisons were made between LCCS 2000 and LCCS 2003 and between Corine Land Cover (CLC) 2000 and 2006. |
