Summary:What an honour it is for me to help launch this extraordinary gathering of senior officials, scientists, artists, policy experts, explorers, and visionaries from many countries and many cultures, all of you lured here because of a fascination all of us share for that seductive, elusive and wondrous blue fish first brought to the attention of the world here in East London by the remarkable woman, Marjorie Courtney-Latimer. Please join me in saluting her, and also in paying tribute to Dr Tony Ribbink, who is forever giving credit to everyone else but for whose inspired genius in pulling together the many disciplines, diverse interests, numerous countries and amazingly varied individuals, this conference would not have been possible.
