Summary: | The clinical features and microbiological data of 25 children with infective endocarditis are described. Pathological data of another 16 patients at necrosy is also reported. There were 20 cases with underlying congenital heart disease and 15 with rheumatic heart disease. Six had no pre-existing cardiac disease. Tetralogy of Fallot was the commonest cyanotic congenital cardiac defect and ventricular septal defect with or without associated lesions was the commonest acyanotic defect. Mitral regurgitation was the lesion in rheumatic heart disease. |
