Summary:From three villages of district Varanasi 121 lactating women were selected for estimating the breast milk immunoglobulins. Samples were collected by emptying one breast in second feed of the day. Samples were analysed for immunoglobulins namely I sub(g)A, I sub(g)G and I sub(g)M. Significant negative correlations were found for immunoglobulins with increase in period of lactation. Maternal nutritional status, hemoglobulin levels and supplementation of hematinics and calcium had no effect on breast milk immunoglobulin levels.
