Summary:Adaptation of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) to their condition is an actual problem especially due to the implementation of treatment with disease modifying drugs (DMT). Coping is the unique way of controlling the situation. Relationship between environmental conditions and resources available to respond to these conditions is a basis of coping; stable patterns of copings form so-called coping strategies. The predominance of one or another type of coping strategies of the patient can determine adherence to treatment with DMT as well as to predict the further course of disease. Own data on the characteristics of coping strategies in MS are also analyzed.
