Summary: | Kartini research reactor is a TRIGA type and has more than 42 years in operation. For the continuous safe operation, a comprehensive in-service inspection (ISI) implementation of the related structure system & component (SSC) of the Kartini reactor is necessary. Since 2001 the ISI of Kartini SSCs has been implemented comprehensively as part of SSCs aging management program. The ISI implementation methods are surveillance and in-service inspections covering tomography, rotation speed measurement, ultrasonic measurement, flaw test, visual inspection, thickness test, surface inspection, and hardness test. The equipment among others: infra-red, tachometer, sound meter, Eddy current, underwater camera, ultrasonic sensor, dye penetrant, and replication. The SSCs subject to comprehensive ISI are the pump motors of reactor primary and secondary cooling systems, blower motors of the reactor ventilation system, electrical panels, heat exchangers, reactor fuel rods, reactor tank liner surface, beam-port, internal pneumatic pipe, and bulk shielding. The ISI implementation results show that in general the Kartini reactor SSCs are still good to support continuous safe reactor operation. As part of the ISI results are some recommendations related to thinning and swelling in several parts of reactor tank liner. One follow-up of that ISI result recommendations was the bulk-shielding modification for minimizing an ageing effect such as swelling/ bulging on several area in the bottom of the reactor tank liner. |
