Summary:The potential for NPs and other nurses to be key figures in health care reform is not without controversy, however. Since 2006 the American Medical Association and other physician groups have sponsored a well-funded collaborative called Scope of Practice Partnership (SOPP) to oppose autonomous practice of NPs and to keep close watch on state legislatures where bills might be introduced to clarify practice of nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, audiologists, and other groups.
