Summary:By using the analytical lens of cultural economy, Kea is able to present a multi-faceted study on how contractual arrangements between female hosts and migrants affects local agrarian practices and social organization. In doing so, Kea effectively demonstrates the importance of including women in the existing literature on land-labor exchanges and breaks down the typical presentation of African women farmers as a homogenous group without rights to land and with little agency in how they perform their agrarian activities.
