Summary:The conflict that has all but shut down giant General Motors' North American automotive operations could prove a lose-lose situation for both union and management. So far, the two sides seem to believe that protecting jobs and improving productivity are mutually incompatible. According to one GM insider, the strike is about jobs and competition. A report by Detroit manufacturing guru Jim Harbour showed GM spending at least a thousand dollars more than its competitors to produce a vehicle.
