Summary:By improvement of the medical care, children with congenital heart disease survive in much greater numbers: the figure of ACHD-patients in Germany is estimated up to 203,000 to 301,000. The need for a specialized care of these patients is accepted by the scientific societies, who introduced a certification for doctors and centers and created guidelines. The medical problems include imaging, treatment of arrhythmia, congestive heart failure and cyanosis, prophylaxis of infectious endocarditis, exercise and pregnancy. For the most frequent defects, indication for treatment and postoperative care is summarized.
