Effect of an alternating magnetic field on the microstructure in hypoeutectic Al-Fe alloy

The effect of an alternating magnetic field on the solidified structures of hypoeutectic Al-0. 90%Fe alloy was investigated. Results showed that Al(3)Fe phases were accumulated at the center of specimens under the alternating magnetic field, whether solidified at 3 deg C/min or 0.6 deg C/min. Decrea...

Summary:The effect of an alternating magnetic field on the solidified structures of hypoeutectic Al-0. 90%Fe alloy was investigated. Results showed that Al(3)Fe phases were accumulated at the center of specimens under the alternating magnetic field, whether solidified at 3 deg C/min or 0.6 deg C/min. Decreasing the cooling rate strengthens this tendency. The mechanism of the alternating magnetic field was discussed.
