Summary:China's current policies and measures on greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction include optimising its industrial structure, macroscopic measures to promote the use of low-carbon energy, advocating a low-carbon economy, encouraging less carbon consumption, increasing carbon sequestration, and concrete measures such as setting energy-saving targets and monitoring their achievement, energy labelling and quotas, carbon taxes and so on. The current climate change mitigation policy has established the basic strategy and framework and formed the policy system for GHG emission reduction in China. China has many successful measures for GHG emission reduction in its existing policy system and practices, which need to be modified, acknowledged and consolidated in law to make better use of their function. The economy of China relies heavily on energy-intensive and highly polluting industries, which is an obstacle on the path towards sustainable development and therefore a reform of its industrial structure is urgently required.
