Summary:Enlightened by clinical practice of new acupuncture techniques such as abdominal acupuncture, different recognitions on deqi (arrival of needling sensation), namely qi sensation under the tip of the needles and qi sensation at the affected region were analyzed in this article. The cause and effect relation of arrival of the qi sensation and effectiveness was unscrambled. Varying from the commonly accepted concept of qi sensation, a new concept of latent needling sensation which took the clinical effectiveness as the standard is proposed as a result to provide theoretical preparations for the clinical practice of painlessness acupuncture.
